Full Name: Joshua Hiban

Role: Manager and Founder of DMV Chess

Joshua Hiban founded DMV Chess in 2017. He is a National Tournament Director, which is the highest designation for arbiters within the US Chess Federation. He has run over 2000 tournaments. His current US Chess rating is 1978. Outside of chess, he enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, and following baseball and basketball.

Full Name: Justin Burgess

Role: Director of Online Programs

Justin joined DMV Chess in 2020. A National Master with a current US Chess rating of 2216, he is a former co-champion of Virginia and one of the region’s most accomplished coaches. Several of his students have gone on to earn master titles themselves.

Full Name: Stephen Jablon

Role: In-Person Tournament Director

Stephen serves as the chief tournament director for most DMV Chess in-person events and also teaches at several of our school chess clubs. He holds a current US Chess rating of 1934 and is well known throughout the local chess community for his friendly, outgoing personality. He has a masters degree in Eastern Philosophy. Outside of chess, Stephen enjoys caving, playing other board games, and traveling.

Full Name: Joshua Posthuma

Role: Advanced and Elite Courses Instructor

Joshua Posthuma is an International Master, an elite title awarded by FIDE, the international governing body of chess. Fewer than 0.01% of chess players ever reach this level. A five-time Michigan State Champion, Joshua currently holds a US Chess rating of 2245. He teaches DMV Chess’s Monday Elite class and our Thursday and Friday Advanced classes.

Full Name: Bryan Milian

Role: Chess Coach

Bryan has worked with DMV Chess since 2019 and currently coaches at several of our school programs and online classes. He holds a US Chess rating of 1892 and is known throughout the local chess community for his family-oriented nature and fun, welcoming personality. Outside of chess, he enjoys making regular trips to his native Guatemala.
