Travilah Elementary DMV Chess Club members receive FREE entry into our extensive in-person tournament calendar.

We’ll also provide each student with a free US Chess membership once they compete in one of our tournaments! We hope this opportunity encourages students to practice chess outside of the afterschool program!

• The club meets on-site at Travilah Elementary every Tuesday from 4:00–5:00 p.m.
• The Fall 2026 session includes 11 meetings from September 22 through December 15.
• The club meets every Tuesday that school is in session. There will be no club on November 3 because of Election Day or November 24 because of the MCPS early-release day.
• Each meeting lasts one hour and includes a 20–30 minute chess lesson followed by guided practice and playing time.
• The club’s coaches will be Adam and Mihir. Adam is a full-time chess coach, an experienced tournament player, and a Class A-rated member of the US Chess Federation. Mihir is a full-time public school teacher and a Class A-rated US Chess player.
• We love helping children improve at chess and seeing the progress they make both on and off the board! Over 10,000 chess players have benefited from DMV Chess programs, and we're super excited to be starting a club at Travilah Elementary!
