Chess Foundations
Build the skills every successful tournament player needs.
Chess Foundations is designed for scholastic players who are new to tournament chess, from students preparing for their first US Chess-rated tournament to developing tournament players rated below 400.
The course focuses on building the strong chess foundations that every successful tournament player needs, including tactical awareness, calculation, strategy, endgames, tournament skills, and good thinking habits. Students develop the skills and confidence needed to compete successfully while preparing for the next step in their chess journey.
Attend the Schedule That Works for You
Unlike our Climb the Rating Ladder courses, Chess Foundations offers four one-hour classes each week. Students are welcome to attend one, two, or as many classes as they'd like. Most families attend one or two classes per week, while additional sessions provide extra instruction, practice, and reinforcement at no additional cost.

Billing
The cost of enrollment is $165/month. Fees are assessed regardless of attendance. After registering online, you will be set up for automatic monthly payments. These payments can be cancelled prior to the start of the upcoming month.
Note: By default, students who register online will be enrolled at the beginning of the upcoming month. If you purchase a course entry in the middle of a month, we will send you an email from courses@dmvchess.com asking if you would like your child to start immediately or wait until the beginning of the upcoming month. Students who choose to start mid-month will be offered the opportunity to pay a prorated invoice to begin right away, or they may wait until the upcoming month to start their membership.
