Bring Chess to Your School
DMV Chess partners with schools across the United States to provide high-quality after-school chess clubs led by experienced instructors. We make it easy for schools to offer an engaging chess program without having to build one from scratch.
Start a Chess Club How It WorksA Turnkey After-School Chess Program
Whether your school is starting its first chess club or already has a program that could use additional support, our team can help. DMV Chess provides instructors, curriculum, chess equipment, instructional materials, and program support so schools can focus on providing a great opportunity for their students.
β Professional Chess Instructors
Our staff includes experienced chess coaches and instructors located throughout the country, allowing us to support programs in communities across the United States.
πΊπΈ US Chess Affiliate
DMV Chess is an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation (US Chess). We help students connect their school chess experience with the larger world of organized chess.
π« Programs Built for Schools
We work with elementary, middle, and high schools and can adjust club size, meeting frequency, class length, and curriculum based on each school's needs.
β Equipment & Curriculum Included
We can provide chess sets, boards, lesson materials, curriculum, and other instructional resources needed to operate the club.
π Opportunities Beyond the Club
Students can receive opportunities to participate in tournaments, special events, camps, classes, and other chess activities throughout the year.
β€οΈ Scholarships Available
We believe financial circumstances should not prevent a child from participating in chess. Scholarship opportunities can be made available for students who need assistance.
More Than a Weekly Chess Club
Our goal is not simply to supervise students while they play games. We want children to learn, improve, compete, make friends, and develop a lasting interest in chess.
Programs can serve complete beginners as well as experienced tournament players. Lessons can include fundamentals, tactics, strategy, game analysis, structured practice, and friendly competition.
Students Can Receive
- Professional chess instruction
- Structured lessons and supervised practice games
- Opportunities to play in school tournaments
- Help preparing for local and national competitions
- Access to additional DMV Chess events and programs
- Opportunities for free or discounted tournament entry
- Assistance obtaining US Chess memberships when available
- Scholarship opportunities for families who need them
Already Have a Chess Club?
That's great β we don't necessarily need to replace it. DMV Chess can also work with schools that already have an established chess program.
Depending on your needs, we may be able to provide instructors, curriculum assistance, tournament opportunities, equipment, advanced training for interested students, or other resources that strengthen your existing program.
Chess Programs Across the United States
Although DMV Chess began in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region, our programs are not limited to the DMV. We have staff and chess professionals located around the country and can work with schools in any U.S. state.
If we do not already have an instructor near your school, our team can work to identify and coordinate with a qualified chess instructor in your area. We can provide the program structure, curriculum, support, and resources needed to help launch the club.
How It Works
Tell Us About Your School
Let us know your location, preferred schedule, approximate number of students, and what you're hoping to offer.
We Build the Program
We'll work with you on scheduling, pricing, staffing, curriculum, registration, and other program details.
We Provide the Instructor
Our team coordinates an experienced chess instructor to lead the program at your school.
Students Start Playing
Students learn chess, play games, improve their skills, and become part of a broader chess community.
What Does the School Need to Provide?
Usually, very little.
In many cases, the school simply provides a classroom, library, cafeteria, or another suitable space where students can meet. DMV Chess can handle much of the rest.
Flexible Program Options
Every school community is different. We can work with schools, PTAs, PTOs, after-school coordinators, enrichment providers, and administrators to develop a program that fits their needs.
Clubs can vary in size, number of weeks, grade levels, meeting frequency, and student experience level.
